Beyond the weekly trail, the hashing year has its own rhythm — themed runs, pink trails, costumes and the occasional waterfall.
October (Cocktober) is a special month for Abuja H3. Whereas the kennel normally runs every other Saturday, in October there is a themed run EVERY Saturday:
The last Saturday of every month is set aside as a Birthday Run, celebrating all hashers born that month. Traditionally the celebrants take responsibility for making the day special — providing extra beer for everyone after the run, arranging chops or light refreshments, and in some months hosting the pack to a full On-On After.
Held to commemorate the feast of St. Patrick, scheduled on the run day falling closest to the 17th of March. All hashers are encouraged to turn out in green — the traditional colour of the day. The vibrant display creates a lively atmosphere as the pack runs together in festive spirit.
A pink-powered event dedicated to raising awareness and showing support. Held in solidarity with those battling cancer and honouring survivors, hashers turn out in pink — the colour of awareness, strength and hope. The sea of pink makes a striking sight as the pack runs together.
An annual run dedicated to exploring the many waterfalls in the city's suburbs, offering a refreshing break from the usual trails. The adventure begins with a 3–4km walk or hike to the falls, where hashers shower beneath the cascading water or simply relax in the cool, therapeutic ambience.
A vibrant celebration of music, unity and the spirit of the reggae icon, usually held in May to honour Marley's birthday month. The trail runs 3–5km of easy routes built for singing and dancing. Afterwards the pack gathers for reggae beats, cold drinks and laughter — peace, love, and one big hashing family.
Like the St. Patrick's Day run, the Halloween run was initiated by the expatriates who founded Abuja H3 in 1997, and the kennel has observed it every year since. In popular culture Halloween has become a celebration of the macabre and the supernatural — costumes strongly encouraged.
Turn up on a Saturday. Bring shoes you don’t love, water, and no ego. Newcomers are always welcome in the circle.
